Turkey Day Death March

Posted on November 26, 2009

I was cordially invited to do a turkey day loop. Since I had nowhere to go for thanksgiving, the idea actually sounded good.

On paper it looked brutal. The company, horrific and when we got to the start line, we were royally fucked. The wind was howling and in the wrong direction. Not good.

3 of us started the ride and the first third were just plain hard. At one point we were down 32 miles, 3600ft of climbing and the wind was still picking up. Kept going and going, we ran out of food and water and for about 10 or so miles we were starting to hurt. When I say we, I mean me and my buddy. The Zohan was fine. At this point we were down 68 miles and about 7000ft climbed.

Stopped in Julian for a lunch and lots of water and the way home was WAY easier. Nice tail wind and we were cruising. Got back to the car and I was actually feeling great:

114 miles, 9653ft of climbing and a 6:30h ride. Just dandy. I dont think I will gain any weight this thanksgiving.

A place for me to speak my mind and hear what people have to say. Sometimes too harsh, sometimes brutaly honest
