Tucson Bicycle Classic – CR
Posted on March 30, 2008
So after yesterdays mishaps I was very mad….I actually wanted to rip that kid’s legs off today.
Last night I set my goal. Make second in GC take it or make those Waste Management pussies pay and in the mean time help my teammate.
Race starts and we are off. The course was much harder than yesterday so I was expecting this to be a VERY hard race. The wind picked up and we got going. First hill, first lap… I went for about 0.5 km… strung things out. I wanted to see who would play. Immediately followed by yellow jersey and 1 of his teammates. The wind was brutal and there was no way I would hold that off for very long, specially with another 200ft of climbing.
First lap pretty mellow, second a bit faster and then the third lap we had sprint bonus. On the hill Adam attacks… gets caught. Two guys counter and Adam goes again. They start to put time into the field, not much but enough to get the WM guys up front to chase. This is my chance… I get into the mix…slow down their chase, I deliver one of my best negative racing responses… I sit on the guys wheel… he rotates, no one goes, he starts screaming…. his teammate comes around, I ride next to him…get in front of him, he gets tired, his other teammate starts pulling… I gap him off the front… he looks back…screeeams at the top os his lungs.. two more WM guys come to help the chase.. I mix it up one more time… sit on the wheels, break the rotation, keep gapping them off, when they would get tired I would ride alongside reminding him of the 30 seconds he ditched me yesterday.. I know my fault, but what I little biotch
Anyways, the group gets away, all WM guys are pissed and I had one under my belt. OK, laps keep going… One guy goes of the front and we never saw him again. He was 4 minutes down in GC. He took the win. He got dropped yesterday so no one figured he would survive this… Maybe he got dropped cause i migt have try to grab his bottle on accident and it flew away… dang, sorry dude… it WAS hot.
So, on the 6th lap all these idiots line up for a feed. I see that and as they fan across the road there was no way of passing them. I go on the other side, over the yellow line and just drill it. Just to make sure the WM guys would not get a feed. It worked but I also got penalized and I got a warming. I know, by now I am thinking that I must be 2 minutes down. The ref actually held me hostage for about 20 seconds… I guess that was my penalty. I chased back on and I was happy gain.
On the last lap I started to giggle. Trying to figure out what else I could do to these guys. A win…. That would be nice. I was actually pretty fresh, so I thought it might actually happen. So I sit in the back for the last 2.5 miles and in the finishing stretch (1km long over two big rollers) I position myself and I go from last to about 8 back. There is a moment of hesitation and I am on the wrong side of Adam. Leading hi out from where I was would be useless, I start going to come around him, in front of him… he reacts and the whole field start the sprint.
It was a very long and hard sprint and I DIED. I crossed the finish line around 12th or something like that… not sure. Adam got 8th. Final GC placement for me was 11th, which seems VERY wrong. I am owed a couple of penalties
All and all good racing and actually pretty tough racing. Lots of guys got dropped, so I fell pretty good. I had a lull moment between Yuma and this weekend, but now I am back. Next week is Crew Classic and the week after is the Omnium, sans Boulevard…
One final note. I hope these Waste Management IDIOTS come out and play here. If we have equal numbers I am pretty sure they will get new assholes ripped ad I will personally make sure that that happens. What a bunch of fucking morons… Maybe 2 guys were good, but the rest, a big waste of space. I surely hope to meet them in a race.
