Stop using Active.com
Posted on April 29, 2008
Following up on mkultra’s post on socalcycling.com.
PLEASE stop using active.com for pre-reg. The service is horrible, there are all these stupid ads and you rarely get it to work the right way the first time.
I have been a great supporter of anything but active for registration, so much so that I wanted to start a new registration system altogether, which would take care of everything for a minimal fee. After some searching around and not finding anybody to partner with i decided to drop the idea, plus socalreg.com was getting started.
I might actually make a point by ignoring the races that have active as their service. They need to get their shit together. I think Conquer the Canyons last year was through active and the fee was close to $7, which was ridiculous….
I have many friends that work at active, I have considered working at active so I feel bad for putting that on them, but the company has some fundamental flaws and it reflects in their products. I think they got too greedy and lost focus. Too bad, great concept for a company, horrible execution.

I found that airing my complaints directly to Active was really effective. They refunded my money (they succeeded in getting me to buy the membership, work the benefits and then I forget to cancel) very quickly.
I think they do have some funda-mental flaws. Namely, they want to force a community thang where it ain’t happening. I’m learning to love the reg sites that allow you to look up your competition in advance, but one of them has been involved in a number of registration messes where someone signed up, paid and then didn’t show on the list that was sent to the promoter….I’ll let them go unnamed for now, as I think they’re trying to do good work at a low cost (read: high personal investment). And, I’d gladly work with anyone other than Active, which often reminds me of an Airline, a Cell Phone company and the IRS all wrapped up in one slightly tri-geek-mental package…especially because it’s all so deliberately sleazy, yet they are nice when you call them on it….kind of like a cult!
PS…who’s gonna win the 3s at Barrio, JH?
I have a lock, but it is bad luck for him to say that he will…. not sure how to keep it honest… I guess I can post it after the race… I promise to tell the truth.
In the PRO race it should be one of the gritter brothers again.
M.P.?
alright, I will break down… Ted will win and i will come in second… great race… LOL
What determines the state championship crit? Is it just a fee the promoter has too pay to SCNCA?
I guess I am just wondering why they changed it from Barrio to San Pedro?
Oh yeah, JH. I can’t race Barrio so you are free to fly
I think state championships have been at Barrio for quite a couple of years. The change of venue is just that. San Pedro is a great course. I guess Eric tries to use challenging courses and changing it once in a while is good.
