First of all….
Yeah, that could have been my motto today. Left SD early and had a quiet but very interesting drive. With all the construction going on and the chatting that I did in the car I missed 3 turns!! And I had a garmin in the car. I am stoopid.
Got there with Ok time to warm up. Did so. While warming up, my bicycle garmin went out, so I decided to use the HR monitor that I took with me.. just in case. So no speed, just time and HR.
Gotta tell you, I felt a little bit better riding hard for more than 10 minutes, but relying on the HR did not do well for me today. I am not sure what else I could have done better or even differet, but if my heart is close to maxed out what else can you rely on? Not a lot of things except excuses. So I will not even bring them up cause there are none.
I drove out there and embarrassed myself. It was ugly. VERY ugly. I got 17th, 54 something… 2 minutes slower than last year ad I am not sure what the reason was. My HR average for the effort was 175, which is a decent number. Should I be going on higher? I am not sure I would have been able to finish the course if I pushed any harder.
While doing the TT I decided two things. NO RACE TOMORROW and maybe I should focus on rowing. Nationals are in Long Beach this year and the base for that I do have.
Teammates got 2nd and 8th. I got creamed.

Shoulda stayed home! Gone to Denny’s, had a Grand Slam and read the paper! You are looking for physical issues but it really sounds like it is mental.
Take a month off (Or two! of racing) Try to loose some weight during the time without getting pissy that you feel weak when you get on the bike. Just chill out and get back to it being enjoyable. nobody else is gonna care except you. We ain’t gonna get rich doing this so there is no management team out there pushing you for results!!
I agree.
But I am not looking for results, just good efforts. That is what I base my success on. If I had at least allowed myself to give it a go and then come in 17th, that would have been fine.
I might take time off. Its needed, I just realized that.
That means the scooter is back…. should not have said anything… LOL. Just joking.
