Specialized Tubes

Posted on December 7, 2009

I cant hold this in any longer…

This off season I got a huge batch of Specialized inner tubes.

The last month I’ve used about 20 of them. More than half of them were flats where I could not find shit in the tire and all I can assume is that these tubes were defective.

Between the group that I ride with and some other people I have asked, it has been decided that these are indeed the shit tubes. The MAJORITY have been defective, no way to deny this.

So fucking pissed off that every time I get back from a ride (100 or 20 miles) I am getting a flat and it only shows up the next day. We are all running on half pressure tires because the tubes are constantly failing.

I noticed that it has been happening very close to the stem and on the inner side of the tube… most little tiny holes are about 304 inches from the valve.

Im done with these stupid tubes.

Yup. I when I first got into road riding I discovered very quickly that their tubes and their tires are very poor. I quickly moved to Continental tubes and tires and I’ve never had a problem since. I can easily get 7500 miles out of a Continental tube and they’re dirt cheap down at good old Performance.

I had a similar problem. I used to get my tubes at Performance until I noticed I was getting flats that looked like a defect not a hole from something else! I had been using their tubes for some years! I switched and now buy tubes from Cal Coast bikes on Adams Ave. 3 for $10. They say GIANT brand (like the Giant bikes logo)

Best thing I did in a long time. Flats went down!! I think half of the flats I got before were defective tubes. I even went through different tire brands before but did not even suspect tubes?? Since then I rarely ever get flats..

totally agree! I got a batch myself and almost all of them developed valve stem separation…Jobst Brandt says that VSS is almost ALWAYS a manufacturer’s defect. I won’t buy em again!
