Drove up on friday with Karl and Justin. Had dinner with Brandon and Amy.

Justin suggested the MOTEL6 for accomodations, well, it was a pretty bad MOTEL6. I should have known. There were no stars in the description. We wanted to bring our bikes inside the room, but there was no room for them..oh well.

Woke up early, got some AM/PM breakfast…aaahhhh….and drove out to Lake Loas Angeles. Got there a bit too late, but still got a somewaht decent warm up in. Just left at 9am, I left at 9:03:30 and Karl at 9:30 something.

I paced myself beautifully. Not too hard, not too easy, warming up for the first 5-6 miles. Made the turn into the cross wind, which was pretty bad. I was feeling pretty comfortable. Got my HR to sit at 177 and form there I went. Turned into the headwind section, I had plenty of juice left to nurse the 6 mile stretch….the hill this year was not as bad as last year and it helped block out the head wind a bit. Got over that and got up to speed again. Was clocking around 25mph average on the headwind section.

Turned corner 3 and there was a slight cross-tail wind. Speeds went up to 27-28-29 mph. I held it for most of the 2.75 mile stretch. Turned corner 4 and I was feeling pretty good. I bumped the HR to 178 tried to rest just a wee bit before the last 3-4 miles.

Speeds were in the 28mph range. I faded a bit with 3 to go, HR hit 181 and I decided to keep it at that. Last mile was all out, but not crazy, I wanted to make sure to pass the finish line at speed and not limping and cracked. Crossed it at 32mph, so had enough energy to finish strong.

Could I have gone a bit faster….yes, but I am not sure how much…To me that was a perfect timetrial. My Garmin read 53:23, the official clock gave me 52:51. Average speed was 26mph, average HR 177bpm, 1651 calories burned, 666ft of elevation.

One guy passed me within 1.93 miles. I knew he was fast so I did not worry about him. Winning time was 46 something. Fast Friday guys got 1-2. They are pretty fast on saturday too (Justin’ remark).

I shaved almost 5 minutes form last years time (i think), Justin also went faster even though he cramped up really bad. So did Karl…he crossed the finish line in limp mode…sucks becasue he would have gotten 2nd….Thurlow won.

Bad luck for the two guys, I was happy and I knew FOR SURE i had a top-10….NAH, got 19th!!!!!!!!!!!! Guys are faaaaast
