“Schwamis” and today
Posted on December 21, 2008
Yesterday as usual I rode “shwamis” – as my girlfriend calls it – and it went pretty well.
Mentally I was ready fro it. Its the last swamis of the year for me as I am heading to brasil for vacation.
I figured I might as well put it out there and see where I finish. Well, the pace was x-mas-sy. The start was really mellow and not too fast. I did mess up though. A bunch of guys rode through a red light and I sat there and waited for it to turn green. I chase back on… as soon as i get on I take a drink and drop my water bottle… I am back chasing again… So what was supposed to be easy turns out to be a tad harder.
So we keep going slow and the pace never picked up to an insane one. I made it pass the right turn, now I make it pass the first riser.. OK, I should be ok for another 3 miles or so…. I make it pass the longer incline… nobody goes super hard, I am still in. My HR is at a steady 188 so I am suffering, but it is tolerable.
Last couple of risers before the sprint… still there. Awesome. Its all I wanted to do. Finish with the pack.
On the way back to the coast the pace was kinda the same. Really hard at times, but for most part pretty mellow. Last hill to the sprint finish I jokingly stat swerving on the road so that i block Neil and Greg from their attacks.. it worked until greg got around. We go up the hill pretty fast.. I burry myself, but had nothing for the end. Good ride though.
Today, sunday, I decided to go pretty hard as I knew the road was going to be pretty shallow. Easy terrain meant faster speeds and I tried to keep it there. Roundtrip to Carlsbad with some pretty hard efforts. Overall a good weekend of riding. We had a little sprint action going on and the PT recorded 1575 watts. Pretty good considering swamis and some hard efforts along the way. I might try to shoot for some higher numbers. My max recorded was 1680, but that was some time ago. Hoping to pass that. I know I have it in the legs, just not sure what the right protocol for testing is. Anybody with any ideas feel free to comment.

You don’t know a guy by the name of Todd Parks do you? Rides for cynergy… I rode with him in the Desert when I was home visiting my family- He mentioned that he rides the swamis ride from time to time.
Glad to hear you finished with the Pack
Thats always a bonus I guess
I think I saw him… and the person that pointed him out said he was a very strong rider… I think that week, when the ride got to the church he was there and I was in a different zip code… finishing with the group is always a bonus…
