San Marcos Road Race
Posted on July 16, 2007
I know, not a road race, but it felt like it. Probablly a good way to figure out if it is wrth it going to Sisquoc.
Jusdging on how I finished or did not finish, Sisquoc is out of the question…..I don’t want it to turn into Sisiquoc.
Whistle goes off and I bolt to the front. As I was pulling into the race the CAT 4 guys had a nasty crash (more on that later) and I saw a SDBC guy on his back paralized with his legs in the air. I heard later that he might have busted his knees….hopefully he can recover and get back to riding, but as I know, knees and shoulders will never be the same after you wreck them, just how it is.
Anyway, I went of the front and wanted to take that corner first, just to see what line was best. It was narrow and I was planning from that time on to stay in the front. Managed to do that for 3 or 4 laps and then a break went of the front. I was sitting in, patrolling (nothing of course) and then Gary took off. FAWWWWWK, I was sitting right there and all I had to do was sit on his wheel and we would be in the break. Well, he went, i went and another rider went. Gary pulled for 3/4 of a lap, i did my miserable pull on the flat part, flicked my elbow, got behind the kid in black, we went up the hill and into the wind I blew up. Gary’s pace was just too high, but it was necessary nonetheless.
I fell back, tried to recouperate, never saw it happen. Redlined for another 30 minutes then on the hill the pack rode away….That sucks…my season came to an end and on a sour note…no work in this race, no results this year, a write off.
The good things, I met some new people and I am looking forward to training. Hopefully work will not get in the way like it did last year. 4 hours of riding a week in January and February hurt me in the long run. I learned my lesson and racing is always a little bit more fun if you can actuallly be in the race.
Alright back to the crash in the 4′s. I have been asked to name the guy that has been causing some crashes in the 4′s field. Noe Alcala is his name and he rides for allegiant air. Apparently he has raced in many countries and as a fellow foreign cyclist I can attest to the competency of other CAT 4′s around the world. He claims that this is the style of riding at the elite level from wherever he raced….I joke about this, but racing in other countries and being on a national development team means nothing in socal. I have had both experiences and look at myself, worthless.
Just to clarify things a bit….Aparently he did not cause Eric’s crash, so that needs to be said, BUT he did take himself out in the last laps, with others too. He has just gotten back from breaking his collarbone at Tucson…..so way to go fool….no lesson learned there.
So there you go. Continue to be a douche bag professional CAT 4…..keep taking people out like that, you will probably have to go back racing in those countries…I am really curious though, what countries was he reffering too? Anybody has a clue? Chime in…all comments are welcome.
Also, on another note, how is Sisquoc? Profile, climate, etc, etc. I will decide if I do it or not in the next week. Like Boulevard, San Dimas, Vanderberg, Bakersfield…?????

From what I gather Noe Alcala is 38 years old, from Las Vegas, NV and he might have raced in Mexico.
He might be a chef in vegas(Pink Taco)…

good to see you in that break Jan, always a tough one in the wind and heat … we kept off the front until 3 laps to go! later dude, GT
One thing is for sure about Sisquoc… it will be windy. Topography-wise, a main stair-steppy climb that is borderline big-ring/little-ring, and one other short steep pitch after a fast downhill. If you just previewed the course on a training ride, you’d swear it would end in a field sprint. In reality, it never does!

(sad to be missing Sisquoc)
I forgot to add
have you seen this t shirt?

Just so you know, Noe is a Cat 2 now and will rip your legs off…good luck in the 4′s, you’re still probably there complaining about how guys race in the middle of the pack in a slow ass 4 race, go off the front once in a while if you can, you won’t have to worry what the field is doing…oh brother, the lack of knowledge is why we have categories. Its funny watching you young cats race, bitching and moaning at 20-22mph. Come in the pros, its 27-30+ mph avg and nobody says shit bumping elbows from the first lap…but then again, you’d be crying at the start line when 10 people jump in the front and push you back before the race even starts…grow some balls, shut up and pedal…girls!
Alright Joe Pro, thank you for the notes.
Yes he would probably rip my legs off, I don’t care… he could rip my tits off, I wouldn’t care. All I know is that this was the general consensus when this post was made – he was taking guys down left and right and no apologies.
And for you to be chiming in for him is pretty lame. Put your name down and then we can all chat. Bitching about my bitching doesn’t make you any wiser of an idiot.
