Rock Racing
Posted on November 22, 2007
I must confess that I am eager to see the roster for the new Rock Racing womens team.
As most of you have heard, one of the main criteria to make the team was to be good-looking. I remember when someone told me this at the dash-for-cash crit earlier this year. My first reaction was great, but then I started to think what the other girls would have to say. I can already picture the bashing that these girls will get.
I am assuming that there will be some negative reaction, but that eventually everyone will realize that it is just a marketing trick for the team. At the end of the day the Rock girls better put out or they will look pretty bad….
I wish them good luck and I hope to see them ASAP!!!! hahahaha….AND that the kits are all white and that it rains every race day…..sounds perverted, sorry…..

I’ve seen Rock roster and am familiar with most of the girls.
There are a couple that are kinda hot.
Sadly, by and large, it looks like they’ll look better than their results will be.
Ah well… some eye candy is better than none at all.
I would ask you to send me the names. I promise I would not divulge them
No problem if you can’t. 10 days left until they start showing up on USA Cycling’s website!!!!
Good point about rosters being published soon and all that secrecy BS.
The list that I saw for Rock women:
Ginger Hsieh
Lana Atchley
Rachel Herring
Carine Bester
Courtney Hammond
Ashley Dymond
Priscilla Calderon
I chuckled when I read your thought on what the other girls would have to say… Indeed, Rock’s method and criteria pissed quite a few people off. Let’s just say that big cans o’ whoopass (pun intended) are on the menu.
I am at work and can’t stop laughing at the comment Lerxst….that is too funny….oh jeez…..
Hopefully the Rock women’s team is strong and can provide them with some good results, because their men’s team will be getting beat up by “Team Bearclaw”. If you are not yet familiar with Team Bearclaw from the cyclocross season, wait til’ you see what they have cooking in the kitchen for the road season. Yee Haw!
I have seen some of the results of team bearclaw, but I have not seen their roster yet. Would you mind sharing
I might have some hints and if I think who they are, yes they are some strong mo-fos on the road, not sure if they would survive the Rock crit train though….

we will be some sweet ass eye candy that will be whoopin some ass… =D
I think all you negative people really should Fuck off… I mean give these girls a break.. They didnt make the criteria they just meet it.. There is nothing wrong with being pretty and good all in the same package…. I mean all of you seem so opinionated about this team but for some reason you dont have much to say about the rest of the regional womans teams… Keep in mind this womens team is a regional team nothing more nothing less… Be happy that there is another person supporting cycling in a good way and trying to promote womans racing.. Its not fair for all you negative people to judge the book by its cover… You will see all these girls have a lot of talent and will prove it to all you skeptical people… When they do i will be the one in the background smiling…
Well JW, my original post was not intended to be negative. I just want to see the team. Everybody else can say what they want and if comments seem to reflect a negative point of view that is just the way things are.
I have allowed all kinds of comments on this blog (even your cursing!). ANY comment, by the way. Some attacked me, but that is fine. I think it is fair to everyone to say what they want, but they will also have to listen to what they don’t want.
It’s not personal. Re-read my post. I think my thoughts are pretty accurate and non intended to bash anyone, it’s just the way things are.
I am assuming you are riding for Rock. I trully wish you good luck. Women’s teams in SoCal have small fields and it would be nice to see bigger ones.

It is what it is…
Gossip worthy..
Contraversusl..
Exactly what Womens racing needs…
Sure this team will be the center of a lot of attention and thus scrutiny, just like anything new and different…
But, truth be told, I would do most of them…ha ha! White kits…not a bad idea JH!
I don’t think anybody’s throwing out the hate on these women.
I’m sure they just want to race their bikes. No more, no less. And that’s cool.
Where the hate is being thrown is at Rock’s obvious attempt at a publicity stunt.
Female athletes have worked too hard over the last several decades to garner their due respect. Then this sort of thing happens. It’s a sad joke and a pathetic and telling commentary.
While Michael Ball’s (or whomever at Rock) team selection methodology is his prerogative, it represents a backward step in women’s sports in general and is, quite frankly, offensive.
This is why people are so opinionated about this subject.
This is racing, not a beauty contest. And, like it or not, those racers on other regional teams that feel offended by Rock’s disrespect are going to take every opportunity to prove just that.
Fortunately, the proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the tasting.
The race results will speak for themselves. Then, JW, we’ll see if you’re still smiling.
As for your kind profane request, I’ll respectfully decline.
Hey JH
We are putting together a Cat 3 Mens Team. Can you send me a couple of glamour shots of you?
Dear JH2,
Unfortunately that will not be possible…I am taken….Plus I have downgraded….
BTW, I think I have an idea of who you are…For the sake of entertainment I might post a pic that I took a couple of days ago…it would probablt fit the theme…
You Downgraded? I was hoping for a rematch at BLVD
Rematch! Have I ever finished that ahead of you? Has anyone ever finished that AFTER me?
Red Trolley Crit- 2 Vanderkitten riders (Liz Hatch and Leah Guloien) and local speedster Jen Wilson LAPPED the entire Rock Racing women’s team.
IMHO- Vanderkitten is the “Rock Racing” of women’s cycling… Actually, it’s probably more fair to say that Vanderkitten is entirely different than RR but both are changing the sport for the better in some ways.
I know, I saw that, but did not have the guts to bring that up. I am gonna have to post something about these girls….
Heres a link to Valley of the Sun Stage Race where Lana Atchley(Rock Racing ) won the GC.

From what I’ve seen this team’s racing and looks are pretty much average at best. The scars from them crashing so much are better than tatoos! I think it is great that Ball has put some money into the women’s field and he should continue to do so, looks or no looks. Too bad he did not use the right local talent that would have put RR on the map with a few NRC podiums.
