Pretty dry compared to last week.

I think 40 guys signed up, 20 showed up and 12 finished. Plan was to go somewhat hard to get a break going. Pace was Ok, but still animated. As soon as something started to form we started working on some blocking but the break was just kind of hovering in front of us.

I decided to bridge and it took me 3 laps to do so. I was not seeing straight and it hurt. I caught them on the hill and someone attacked!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a teammate, but he had no idea that I was in there hanging like a dingleberry… literally, by a strand.

I start to fade, heart is at 192 and legs are hurting. I drop out of the break. To bad. So I wait for the next group and decide to save up for when they do lap us. Me and a teammate work together pretty good to counter any attack. We are 5 or 6 at this point and later in the one guy dropped out. We had no business chasing anything so it was up to them to work. I fell bad cause it makes me look like a pussy, but I HAD to do it. There was some screaming and yelling, but I took it pretty good, after all I can see how lame I looked and how pissed off I was getting them.

So the “field” catches us and we have 5 laps do go. My job now is to make sure no attacks get stuck and maybe soften some legs. The group is huge ;-) , 12 guys!!!!!! Some more yelling and bitching but we tag along.

I thought I would have a better lead out but my body gave up on the hill and then they were home free. We got 3rd, 7th, 9th, 10th…oh well. SOme guys were REALLY strong and they worked.

No crashes which is unreal. I have no idea how we manage to ride in the worst possible surface condition and not crash. It is possible, just have to use your head sometimes. After it was all set and done we had a good time. Although a friend of mine told me that it was the most boring race he had ever seen, for us racing there was a lot going on…mostly mind games.

Anyway, next week the fun continues and I seriously hope that it will be dry. I liked the last two races, but I would really like to have a dry course next time.
