Red Trolley, Lately, Dana Point, Cyclo-Vets Omnium, VOS

Posted on February 14, 2010

Last weekend I “raced” Reed Trolley… that is, I registered, paid, sat in the back and got shelled half way through.

Not sure what happened, but I was dying. I was feeling like my heart was going to come out of my mouth and my ears were hurting so badly from the pounding (heart). I felt like I was at the verge of an asthma attack, my heart rate was well into the 190′ and I could never recover. For everyone else it looked like an easy race, for me it was terrible. What a waste of an afternoon… oh well..

SO after that I started to think seriously about this racing thing. I am just not cu out for this shit. Its too hard/dangerous/time consuming.I might end the suffering ASAP and just ride until I am OK to race again… next couple weeks will be crucial. If I get shelled at Ontario, thats it.. I will quit for a good long time… I promise.

So a couple of things I noticed. The Dana Point TT. What a fucking rip-off. $25 for a 2.5 mile TT. That is almost as expensive as my Red Trolley stint… 10 dollars a mile! 10 bucks a lap!!! I don’t know man, but I doubt they will fill that event up.. AND because of that shit, The Cyclo vets omnium will not have a Pro/1/2 and 3 event….. WTF? There is just no way in hell I am going to Dana again. I know, call me what you want, I am not going down on that stupid course.. actually, the course might be fine, just people can’t handle it.

On a final note, I am super happy I did not go to VOS. Its useless if you dont have a good TT in your legs and if you are lucky, you wont crash or get crashed out in the crit. Just really happy I opted to stay home. Dont know whats next, but the calendar looks slim and the fitness wont cut for the bigger events…. 2010 cycling year is almost over for me already. Oh well…. back to rowing.

nah, I know what to do, when to do it and how hard to do it…

Plus I am not going anywhere in cycling, so no point in allocating more resources into it. Its supposed to keep me from hitting 250lbs and so far I am doing OK.

Not putting it down, just keeping it real… real slow ;-)

Been there…. Sometimes you need time off…. 98%+ of all people do not do what we do. We get more concerned what people think if we do not race, 98%+ of people out there could care less… You have to look out for #1.. If it is not enjoyable or fun anymore it is time to lay off till you have a desire again.

Could not have said it any better.

Don’t really care what people think or say, I just need to keep the fitness in check because it ruins my head when I sit around too much. its an exercise issue, not a cycling one. If it wasn’t for the bike I would be doing something else, it just happens that most of the people I know now ride their bikes and its easy to meet up and catch up on life while on the saddle…. Only few sports where you can do that…

As an old “non racer” now, I could probably use some of them there Androgel packets! I have been feeling pretty wimpy lately…

I hear ya buddy! I’ve lost interest in racing over the past couple of years, especially road stuff. I don’t see much of a pay-off in spending hours training to race a crit were your placing is pretty much meaningless. Whether you win or finish last, no one really cares or does it really matter. Instead since I have significantly reduced the amount of crits I do, I can spend more time locally with the fiance, friends and doing rides with buddies at the track or on the road and get more enjoyment out of it.

For those that love to race, props to them and I know it can be a blast, if you have the right mindset and motivation. For me, it’s not there any more and there is nothing wrong with it. Once I was able to accept that, I once again took joy in riding.

Try some Viagra and Extends. That may boost your confidence and put you on form again…
