Ramping up the riding

Posted on June 1, 2010

I have been ramping up the riding the last couple of weeks. I went from 6 hours a weeks to about 12-16 right now. All in preparation for the upcoming races.

Next weekend is Bakersfield and then Sisquoc after. I started to trim down the weight, but it might not be enough, at least not enough for bakersfield, so not sure I will make the drive up there. Power and suffering thresholds are ok, but it would have been nicer if I were 5 lbs lighter RIGHT NOW. For sisquoc it is doable.

Anyways, this long weekend hurt. Supposed to ride hard this AM but the legs are sore, really sore. I decided to ride a “recovery” ride with the Zohan and it was nothing than a recovery ride. I love how he calls it a “pianĂssimo” ride… just nice quick tempo. Well, in my head it sounded like a fucking death metal band. Highest average wattage numbers I have seen in a while. We were going fast at times, then really slow other times (mostly uphill).

Its all good. Deep down inside I knew I needed it if I wanted to race the next couple weekends, so I am perfectly fine with it. Gonna try to ride with the Wolfpack guys this afternoon… I’ll be the fat sheep in the bunch
