Ontario race #3, 1/2/3 race
Posted on May 18, 2008
After pounding a beer and a coke and a gallon of water I was all set for this one.
I predicted that i would last 20 minutes. It was windy and what usually happens is that a LARGE group of guys get lapped and sometimes the refs take the entire lapped field out. The course is so short so I understand that they have to do that… too much to keep track of.
Race starts and it was pretty mellow. At least sitting in
I sat in, then I sat in, then I sat in some more. The pace really never got insanely hard. A break went up the road and Nate was in it, so no 5 star attacks and they were the majority.
The group would string out here and there but I never felt like it would get too fast. At one point I “thought” I was riding the back cause there were so many “island riders” scattered across the street, that I actually panicked and put in some work, but after half a lap I looked back to see if anybody would help and there they were… 60 guys sitting on
I was glad to see that. Pulled off immediately. You bixes work.
With 20 minutes to go I guess the break lapped the field and it got hard. Some idiots were feeding riders in the pack and made it somewhat dangerous… I mean, some feeds were completely of course and those were fine, but others were right were the lines were being taken. Not good.
So with 10 to go the pace picked up and I knew I was going to finish. A bunch of guys sat up and i rolled through. 30th, 40th… not sure. One thing though, it was cooler then the first race… i think 98 degrees.
Went back to the car, pounded another corona. Felt good. The drive home went by really quick. I wasn’t driving, just for the record…
I am sure I will remember some wacky crap that happened here and there, will write about it tomorrow or later in the week. Got a busy one, so will get some good tapering for State TT.
