Ontario – CAT 3
Posted on March 24, 2008
So its easter and no one seems to recognize this as a holiday cause the fields were pretty big.
Got there a bit early and it was enough to get a feel for the sun. That “thing” was cooking people, but it was nice training for bakersfield RR.
We have about 50 guys in the field and the race starts. We had 3 guys in the race and honestly our chances were not good. I am dying from allergies and am worthless right now. I decide to sit in and go for a sprint at the end. I hate to do that because if I drive all the way up there, do nothing and get nothing it really annoys me. The whole point of cycling for me is to keep me under 200lbs and if I just sit in I might as well ride in San Diego for 5 hours (which is the time that I spend driving and sitting in a race over there).
But today I decide to go fro the sprint. I sit in, then I sit in some more, then a little more and then we have 3 to go. I make my way to the front. By this time I am growing VERY impatient and I am feeling pretty good about my chances.
With one to go i try to place myself 3 or 4 back, but that does not happen. We have this waiting game. So now I am at the front with 50 fresh guys behind me (at least 40) and I decide to take a flier. I know, stoooooooopid. I start pulling the group then I decide to hammer into the wind. I put a gap on the field and I held it until 2 corners to go.
I DIED. 196 hr and my legs are feeling noodly. AGAIN, walk away with nothing. Very disappointing. I need to get my crit legs going pretty quickly. I might be overtraining with the rowing. After the big race on April 3rd I should easy up on intensity and hopefully focus more on the bike.

Guys like Bordine, Rogers, and Walker make breaking off look so easy. The minute I get into the wind my heart rate is up and start fading. Makes you appreciate how much those guys can suffer.
