Ontario 3 and 1/2/3

CAT 3
I think there were about 35-40 guys in the field. We had 4 and the plan was to attack until a break stuck. So we did. 4 times before something went up the road. From that point on we were on the defense and the major blockage that we provided might have annoyed 90% of the guys.

TJ had a big mechanical, so he was out. So now we had one guy into he break and two in the field. We followed every move and pretty much neutralized any attempts of bringing those guys back.

So we got 3rd for the day, which was decided with 2 laps to go. Apparently the guy that won spoke no english and he was ridding the leg off of his breakmates. Pretty funny shit. They could not figure out how to tell the guy to slow down a tad. To me, that is the perfect rider to be in a break with.

So for the last lap I lead out someone….not sure who it was, but we were actually tying to get one of our guys to take the field sprint. Did not work. In any case, we were happy with 3rd on the day.

Average power for the 55 minute crit was 275w

1/2/3
Maybe 100 guys in the field. Rock, 5 star and SDBC had a bunch of guys. Break goes up the road and they try to catch them. I think a couple of breaks went but I am not sure. I was tailgunning this one. Great leg speed workout.

Time keeps going by and for me this is a slow death race. At least right now. Slowly it wears you down. There was a point, 20 minutes to go, the pace was just a bit too high for me and I THOUGHT that that would be my demise. It eased up, I guess the break was caught and everyone was happy again. It was enough to get me back into the race.

3 to go and the pace picks up again. Now I am hurting and positioning in the field severely hurts my legs. The wind was pretty brutal and my hat goes off to whomever was driving it. Last lap I just try to hang on and I cross the finish line in pretty much last place. It was a pretty good race. Bahati won and there was one crash, which I am not sure what happened, but probably some O2 deprived CAT 3 messing things up.

The guy that I drove up with did the CAT 3 race, the 30+ 1/2/3 and the 1/2/3. He was destroyed. He also had worked a night shift (7pm – 7am) and had not slept for 48 hours…. he was absolutely destroyed and I had to drive his car back. Good times.

Average power for the 90 minute crit was 238w. It was way faster than our race though…but I did the whole thing on the back.

BTW, it was sunny and dry for both races…..great racing weather.

    Weakest break ever!

They didn’t even need to ride hard to get off? No elastic was broken just rolled of the front, got ignored and then some solid negative racing from UCC and Bannings did the trick. If there were over 30 guys in the field that break would have been toast.

That being said, good result for both UCC and Bannings. UCC has options(strong riders and good sprinters) but Bannings pretty much showed us everything they have yesterday. Their tactic is pretty simple. Pray that Broadhag gets in the break and hope they brought enough guys to the race to block.

Can you tell I am pissed I didn’t bridge? ;)

yeah, I feel like a douche, but I had to do it….we only had 2 guys in the field, so did you guys ;-)

Man, you were going for the sprint…

    Ted,

Sorry you didn’t make the move. As I heard it, my boy’s did a valiant effort to try and get away as much as they could. As long as the teams in the break doesn’t hinder the progress of the race, I call that team tactics, not “solid negative racing”. That being said, Kurt really is the only person you should watch on our squad. Please tell all your Liquid teammates the same.

yes Ted, I am sorry you brought a knife to a gun fight… I am joking man.

You should have been at Red trolley. I think it was 10 times worse. We had everyone yelling at us for not working, but then again we had guys in the break… guys actually got REALLY pissed off

I didn’t know that. Those guys at red trolley should have done what you did and go for a bridge attempt if they wanted it badly enough, what, they expect you to work to chase down a break when two of your teammates are in it? right.

And all this time I thought I was the only one reading your site Jan!

Priceless! Oh well. More fuel on the fire, I suppose.

As for missing “the move”, yup, I must have missed it, maybe I was asleep (seriously)…..I forgot that in Cat 3 races you never ever try to work to bring something back, you just bridge or sit in, their isn’t enough brain power in the group to actually meter an effort and work together to ride faster.

I have to apologize for the Banning’s comment above. Here I was running the mouth off to Jan, trying to get on his team’s good side ;) I have to give Banning’s big props for the way the handled the VOS crit. Tony rode like a mad man finishing in the top 4 or 5 of what has been the most difficult crit this year. A solid finish and a solid effort at that race from TT to the finish.

I am actually really stoked that there are actually some solid squads in the 3s this year, Bannings, UCC, Liquid, NOW, Possabilities, etc. It should be fun duking it out with you guys all year.

    oh yeah,

Jan, I am sharpening the knife, I suggest you bring a bigger gun to Dash for Cash :)

man, you should see the stats…people from all over the country read this crap. Its crazy, cool, but I have no idea how they got a hold of the address…. It must be the insightful content.

The gun is going to Yuma….sorry

Personally, I thought it was a really good race. In fact, I would say it was the most “professional” Cat 3 race that I have been in (I know it’s an oxymoron). It was fast, realtively strung out, attacks and counters throughout and a lot of postering.

I’m with Ted….we actually have some serious teams this year and I think the level of racing is heading in a positive direction. I just hope we get a season in before all of the serious racers Cat up.
