Omnium TT

Posted on April 3, 2009

Woke up early to make sure I was heading into the race as LIGHT as POSSIBLE if you know what I mean ;-)

I know its flat and all, but I need everything I can get my hands on. Anyway, got there with about 90 minutes to go (this will be important at some point in the post). Set the rollers up got a good warm-up. Stretched, chit-chatted, BS’d for a while then went on the road to check to see if everything was OK. Everything cool, except I had 90 seconds to get to the starting line. Crap, that was a gnarly sprint to the line.

Made it with 12 seconds to spare and off I went. BTW, Ralph made a smart remark about me being late…. its not true Ralph. Appreciate the free plug though!

So got of to a pretty fast start and I realized immediately that I had to slow down. My goal was average 28mph. Did not happen. Second time around on the back stretch the wind just killed me. I hung in there for a 26.7 +/- and that was it.

I feel like the effort went good. I am just not sure how to handle a distance that short.

Yesterday I did my V02 max and that served me well as an opener. I felt like the effort yesterday was greater than todays TT, but the again, here I am outside, noises are cancelled out, there is wind, sun…. The V02 max environment is so condensed…masks, closed place.

Tomorrow I am supposed to do boulevard. I need to see results before I make a final decision. Teammates want me to go and help out, but what go would I do?

Dude! Just read the omnium results and thought I was hallucinating. “Special Vitamins” finally kickin’ in? Just kidding…congrats on your overall victory. It is nice to see the good guys win one every once in a while. Keep doing what you’re doing. Take care and congrats.
