BOULEVARD…..what can I say. The flat TT I could get away, but not on this monster….And to make things worst, we had a tailwind on the climb. Nothing worse for a fat cyclist.
I got dropped half way up highway 80. I crested 30 seconds after the main group and drilled it on the downhill, but with the heavy winds there was no way of getting any speed that I needed. To add insult to injury I was coming down on the fastest part of the descent, clipping at 36-38 mph and a bee hits my helmet…I shaked it off, but it was to late, it stung me and it did not even hurt that bad….with everything else going around me I wasn’t really impressed by the sting. I still have a red blob on my forehead.
So I got within 200 meters from the group 3 times!!!! It sucked. I went up the hill and when I came through the finish line my whole team was sitting on the side. Everyone had some kind of issue…flat, chain dropped, flat legs, cramps, dehidration….crap.
I quit. This is the second race that I pull out….so frustrating….
