off season nightmare

Posted on December 10, 2007

I did the camp pendleton ride the other Wednesday and when I finished my “sprint” for 80th and I got thinking about the upcoming season. I realized that I would have to get to another level of fitness, a level that right now I just don’t have.

I cut my sprint short for several reasons, but when I did so I actually felt some pain and nausea. Heart rate hit 192 and even though we were going pretty good I thought that it was comparable to a CAT 3 race. The sad part is that we did not really go hard until the last 5 miles or so. Kinda like in CAT 3 races anyways.

Looking back I kinda can remember how it goes. First 15 races you are just getting the body used to the high intensity. Guys that killed it in the off season, peak, but then in July things finally come together for all the others and the hammer comes down. With plans to go to VOS and be in somewhat good shape I think I will have to up my game. Not sure exactly as I have ridden more than in years before.

With my trip coming up soon I am really looking forward to the training. When I go home I usually get the chance to ride as much as I can for a good 3 weeks and the year that I did stick to a brutal regimen it paid off big time.

Cross training is still going good. I am really jealous of the cyclocross guys. I guess I am just to big of a puss to get dirty or maybe I am just lazy to do THAT laundry, not sure…Maybe its because I can’t run to save my life.

Anyways, with 1 month or so to go until the first race many of us are wondering what will happen. I am pretty excited and actually can’t wait to race with the team. But these are my thoughts and they do come to me every now and then….what are yours?
