No SDBC Elite at Omnium

Posted on April 7, 2009

I wondered where the SDBC elite teams were this weekend. Local race, could not have been an easier racing weekend.

Then I heard that they where boycotting the event cause last year something happened with them and the organizers… not sure what could have caused it, but its pretty lame…

Can you imagine if people boycotted Barrio?

    Not lame…..
I know details and I saw it, at least 1 of the issues, happen again right in front of me later in the day! Nickel and diming people while the $$$$ go slipping away…

    Lets hear it

While i’ve never had a problem with the Omnium organizers, I’ve heard waaaay too many bad stories about the organizers and their nickel and diming to give them the beneift of the doubt. i’m giving the SDBC riders the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Hmmm. Let’s see. Someone else is working their asses off so we can spend a glorious weekend racing. These people genuinly love the sport and have been doing this for year after year. I think its beyond petty and flat out disprespectful that there is anything close to a boycott. Shame on the self-absorbed boneheads who perpetuate this negativity

    Ditto, Mitch. Well said!

In years past they haven’t turned out in huge numbers for the omnium races anyways. Maybe a guy or two in the TT and in the road race tops. A few more in the crit, so what? I’d hardly call this stink worthy. Being not on the team, we’re all just speculating.

Not really speculating…. I know what happened, I just don’t want to be the first one to write it down ;-)

BTW, there are other developments… interesting stuff…

I mean, as interesting as a cycling soap opera can get….

They put a lot of details in their race bible and if you do not follow just one they withhold all money/prizes. I saw it right in front of me, even when it was obvious the guy was in front of us. He promised to never come back….. They tried to overcharge me and did overcharge many others before me that day. I will talk to you tonight

So they’re a bunch of crodgy buggers who like to follow rules. Its still a huge effort and we all benefit. Personally I am grateful and especially happy that I don’t have to drive to LA.

It was odd to see Randall riding in AMGEN clothing…. wonder what happened. Need to ask him if i see him tomorrow.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the work they do to put on a race – I’ve organized a couple, I know how much work it is. That being said, there is a right way and a wrong way to treat the riders that come to your race. As much as I appreciate the race, I’m also a customer of theirs. They aren’t doing this out of charity. As a racer and customer, if I’m not treated right, I’m taking my race dollars elsewhere.

I love to see Randall in Amgen gear. That was a long time coming. Can you picture DaMarchi and Randall on the same side of the fence…..Thats scary.
