Murrieta (tour de)

Posted on March 16, 2009

This weekend we rolled out to Murrieta and boy oh boy, that race does not disappoint – the crash fest that is.

Year after year, people just get clobbered and i am not sure that it will survive.. at least not in that location. Its too bad cause they have great support (city, venue, sram, community).

The crashing is just too much.

The crit was really good until the laps cards where a crash happened in turn 3. Next time around we crashed on top of the crashed rider. 1 lap later we crashed on the crashed people that had crashed on the crashed dude 2 laps ago. 1 more lap same shit all over again. They should have neutralized the race. For one, it was really dangerous with cop bikes parked in the corner and also cause I was off the front, barely holding onto it, but off the front.

Well, I got swallowed with 1 to go and that was it. 1 more crash in the same spot and we were done!

The circuit race was a bit better, trust me.

The plan was to get 1 ride of each of the bigger teams and roll away. We tried to egg the group on to see who would come and some went, others watched. I think 4 of us played the game until finally a counter to my move went up the road. Slowly other guys joined and we were set.

We knew we had the strongest guy in the break so our job was to keep them out there.

The great thing about this race was too see the people that always sit in, have to work. I could not believe what i saw. These guys can work, but they choose not to. I put my very “obnoxious” attitude on and rode the last 5 laps disrupting everything.

Even the juniors got into the mix. The worked… horribly, but they worked. And when I say this, it was a big group from the same team. Same shit that happened in Yuma. We attack, attack and attack, then a break goes and when the break is really far everyone starts to bitch about rotating and yelling about us not working. Where the fuck were you when we tried to get away earlier… If you want a sprint, work earlier and harder or don’t show up.

One thing that also struck me was the fact that most of the people that crashed were the people that chased really hard, thus the people that always sit in. I have to say, karma is a bitch.

Well, we ended up not winning, but a friend did, so its all good.

No racing fro a couple of weeks as i honestly cannot convince myself to race SDSR. TOOO hilly.
