Just a quick comment on last minute registration.
I really like sites that show you how many people are in the race and who they are. It is always nice to know who you will be racing against. Not that I would decide not to, but it’s just nice…ACTIVE.COM, take notes.
So this weekend is the North End Classic and they used bikereg.com, which allows you to see who is registered and it has some other features.
SO I tracked whoever was registering, you know, every other day last week and everyday this week. The numbers were really low last week. Like 30-40 riders… Yesterday they were up to 80 maybe. And voilá, today with up to one minute to go 100 people registered!! The last possible day!!!!!! Last possible hour!
This procrastination can only mean one thing to the promoter. I huge headache. I can see this guy trying to create a great race, puts all this time into it, goes over detals 100 times, etc, etc, etc…..just to have to sit and wait for the lazy bums to sign up. Poor guy/girl.
It looks like they broke even with prize money/registrants, so that is good. I think they might have same day reg, which would probably help the numbers, but so far so good.
I am pretty sure it will be a very good race and I am looking forward to it. Ready for some more “negative racing”…..LOL

20 pre reg’d in the 3′s? … there were over 100 at VOS, and already 32 3′s pre-reg’d at next months San Dimas. They would likely have had much greater numbers had they made it a stage race vs. an omnium.
There is a way to see who pre-reg’s on Active. But it is tricky.

That is some serious detective work…
Don’t underestimate yourself Jan, not just negative racing …… “solid negative racing”. This is an advanced “team” tactic that can only be mastered by those who have gravitated to a higher plane of Cat 3 complacency. These indivuals, having totally undertrained themselves, have adopted the philosophy that there is still hope for team success through well coordinated soft pedaling and wheelsucking.
Have fun in Yuma, did you look at the crit course ….. I got a little tipsy trying to read the map. 100 guys huh? sounds like the VOS course again.
well, at Ontario there were 35-38 people in the race. I had 1 teammate in the break and 1 with me in the pack. Thats all that we could contribute to the slow pace. The reality is that no one wants to blow up trying to bring a break back cause that will mean they will probably get last in the race…
Its a tough situation if you only have a couple of matches to burn (my case).
Last year I have probably finished 1/5 of my races with the pack…. the other times I just rolled of the course cause I had blown up trying to, or catching breaks.
I guess fitness will allow people to bridge or close gaps, but if you are doing that you have probably figured out you can win on your own and by now you have the upgrade points….
CAT-3 racing is no mans land….
I got a full load of matches to burn at races this season. I am going to be the designated chaser, attacker, closer and all around pain-in-the-ass to other teams!! I plan on bringin a can of whoop ass to the next race I attend..
Do your job during the race! Suck wheel so you can finish 23rd? Screw that!!
