Everybody ditched out last minute so I went by myself. After a stooooopid week of work I needed some “alone time” and it was good.

What wasn’t good was traffic and I almost missed the cut off time for reg.

We were off and maybe 50 guys in the race. 22 of them were from PAA, couple of DARE guys, DeWalt guys and people like me! So riding by myself offers an insterresting dynamic, I had no olbigation to turn up the speed, no need to create anything in the race. My thoughts gathered momentum after a couple of laps and I set my plan in motion.

I decided that it would be a safe enough sprint and sat in. I was going to rely on onther people to work today. The finishing stretch was long….the myth is that it was about a mile long, I could almost believe it because it still fits within the 1.1 mile long course and it took very long to cover it.

I sat in the front for the first 4 laps or so, then went to the back. A break of 10 guys went off and those were guys that could make it happen. I saw that PAA had some guys in the break and they still decided to chase, which was weird (nice word for stupid). After 4-5 laps and with no one ACTUALLY closing the gap I decided to bridge. I did and started working trying to stay away. Well, that lasted 5 laps and we got caught.

After that I decided to sit in. no one was getting away. 2 to go I am at the back and feeling pretty good. 1 to go, still in the back, 2 corners to go I move 5 guys up, 1 corner to go I move 5 more guys up. Finishing stretch I pass about 25 guys. I wanted 10 more, but oh well…I was waiting fro the BIG wreck…this usually happens when people switch lines and takes out riders behind them…

I was still feeling good after the race so I think I regret not taking a flyer…crap…oh well…

AT LEAST I DID NOT CRASH LIKE LAST YEAR. Good thing I landed on my teammate Jay….he is skinny, but is softer than pavement.
