Fiesta Island Motorpacing
Posted on August 10, 2007
With my bad back I decided to show up at fiesta on the scooter. I remember when Vinve showed up on his one time and he demolished the field…..
So the workout starts and I am just pacing the group, not too fast, not too slow. After 3 laps I get the nod from Peter to put the hammer down and heading 30mph into the wind, the group exploded. there were 2 groups that had formed. The first one with about 20 guys and the second one with about 40. Came around into the downwind section and I could see the second group making contact with the lead group. The single file lane was pretty long. As soon as we hit the headwind I picked up the speed and the group snapped again.
From there on, the lead group pulled away and I tried pulling the second group up to the first one, but people could not do it, except for one guy, which held on for 2 laps or so. With about 200 meters to close the gap, he kept yelling at me to go faster and faster and into the headwind I hit 35mph and caught the group. This guy was so tired, but he managed to latch on.
In the end I made my way up to the lead group and saw the sprint.
It was pretty cool and I think that the faster guys liked the pacing cause it weeded out all the people that just sit in and cause problems.
If my back is still bad, I will most likely show up next week, although I’d rather do the workout on my bicycle.
