Fiesta Island, Latin American style
Posted on December 30, 2007
Went down to the local “Fiesta Island World Championship Criterium” or the Rosebowl for you guys up north.
It was a pretty short workout, but a furious one. Of course being the out-of-towner, I felt like I was being marked. I had different gear and I popped out of the crowd like a sore thumb. I am not sure about costs of equipment down here, but I guess I could trade it with a car. Bikes here a super expensive.
So the plan was to do 3 laps. One slow with the group (20mph), one open to the “elite” guys and the last lap was a free for all.
As soon as we are done with the first lap, someone attacks and I hit redline in 30 seconds flat. Everyone followed suit and we had a nice 20 man TTT. The speed kinda shocked me as I have not been doing any of that work.
I tried to do my part, as always. You know, not being a douche bag and sitting in like a lot of people do. I made sure to keep it real hard, but eased up when i was close to cracking, cause I did want to finish the workout.
Some attacks brought me right back to life and after several matches being burned in attempts to make a break happen, there was a sprint. And I was way to roasted to even try. I had forgotten that there was a sprint with 5 miles to go. Oh well.
Chased back on and after some other attacks I finally cracked. I rolled in with this other guy that I remembered from the last time. He was also feeling pretty “angry” today, so he attacked the shit out of everyone. 2 years ago he was the state RR champion. I was a CAT-4 back then and we were the only dudes left in the peloton. I have to say though, yesterday there were some guys really gunning for it. Guys were pushing the pace at the front at solid 27-28mph speeds. It was actually a pretty hard workout.
Anyways, MLK crit will not be fun
Or whatever crit I first do. The heart just cant take 190′s yet…
