Fiesta Island – 5/29/08

Posted on May 30, 2008

Left work a bit early and got down to Fiesta really early, which was nice. Did some laps and was ready to SIT IN!

The field was really big and there were 100 CA Pools guys…. I thought I was going to get beat up after my last post. Anyway, none of that happen and we went off. On the field again, I am assuming there were more than 100 guys. Some big guns so I made sure to stay in the first half.

The pace was on and off and not like 2 weeks ago where the field strung out and snapped to create a break, a group of guys this time just rode away. Maybe 10 of them, maybe more. I had not even seen them sneak away and for some time we were chasing with the help of a guy on a TT bike. We got really close to catching them as they were shedding people from the group, but it never happened.

With one to go it slowed down a lot until somebody (Mike) stepped up and led everyone out. I was sitting pretty good and got the sprint in the group. Now, big deal right? The reason I even posted this was to make sure I did not forget.

After the sprint I got this really strange sensation in my body. A mix of tingling and pressure. I look at my HR and it reads 190, which is the highest I have gone this year. I did put some work in closing gaps and chasing, so it wasn’t the shock of going from 140 to 190. Also, It came back down to 170 in less than 100 meters after I stopped pedaling. I hope my rest week has worked well for my body, I only wish I would have a chance to repeat that sprint at Dana Point this weekend.

In any case, lots of babbling. My point is that my body responded well to the work and I am happy it did.

Saturday, easy spin and sunday racing. I honestly hope the announcers keep their funny remarks to themselves cause if I hear something I will drop the F-bomb and some other things I know about them, right there, in front of everyone. And on Floyd too, IF he shows up…. he is supposed to, like last year… I am sure everyone remembers that!
