Where to start.
First I want to congratulate the winners…. the break that is… they fucking deserved it.
Secondly, I am promising to never go back to that efen race. I don’t care how good of a bike handler you are and how safe Thurlow says the course is. I DON’T LIKE IT and will probably never show up again, which sucks because it is a big race now.
Third, I felt like shit. Could never get my shit together and watching a bunch of the women get carried away in stretchers did not help either. Just one crash after another. I saw two in our race and one was a dumb one, but the other was more of a out-of-control crash.
I left before the pro race, so not sure what happened there.
To back my claims that I felt like shit, I downloaded the data from the PT and average watts was 255w. I rode back from carlsbad home and on that ride i averaged 235 watts for 110 minutes. So, I started to feel better as time went on.
Oh well…. next week I got a busy week. I also have my last V02 max test for my study. I am not sure how to train for this as i would like to get a really hard week in… oh well.
On a last note and very weird one. I “heard” that San Luis Rey will be basically a hot dog course cause the permits for highway 395 are still pending… Now, can you imagine bombing down that hill with another category coming up… say the pro guys are doing 45mph down the hill and a full group of 4′s is coming up… something WILL happen, so I am hoping this is not true… if anyone cares to confirm or deny, please do so.

Dana is a terrible course. I won’t ride it again.
Mitch, you in there somewhere? http://dmunson.smugmug.com/photos/522616541_56kdj-X3.jpg
My issue were the metal fences on the outside of the turn, especially at the corner before the finish. There was little margin for error, & when the inevitable crash happened, more cyclists where involved & risk of injury was greater. it wasnt a nice sight to see the Cat4 races pile into the fence at full speed on their last lap.
