Racing tactics – Tip 2

- Corner Diving

Think San Marcos circuit race.

Perfect course for you to use this technique. Very quick, swift big ring hill and then a false flat, big downhill.

If you are like me, you will put in motion tip #1 on the climb. By the time you reach the finish line you will be almost at the back of the pack. What now? Well, you have to catch up and there is only one way. DIVE INTO THE CORNER!!!!!!

I have seen it many times. Fat kid can’t make it with the pack, comes barreling down the hill, cuts everyone off, takes the inside and BAM, he is back in the game. By taking the inside line of an already crowded corner you force other people out, they slow down. This move assures you that there will be a number of capable riders behind you, and once again they will close the gap. You might need some pushing around, but that is OK, because you are larger.

There are other course that you might want to practice this technique: Manhattan Beach (into turn 4), San Clemente, San Fernando (turn 3), Conquer the Canyons (turn 3) and many many others.

Like always, practice by yourself before getting out there and pushing everyone out of the way.
