Contador, the idiot climber

While I am on a roll here, I would like to offer my opinion on this guy.
I feel bad for him. He knows that is the only way he will win this race. I was actually watching this and hoping he would eat shit, Schleck would stop, wait for him and they would ride together to the finish line.
What a cheap move and to add insult to injury they are comparing this to the crash. Nothing has to do with nothing. The crash was a mandatory stop and wait, this was just a courtesy. Its fine if he did not stop, but now the gloves are off and this might get much better. I know Contador will not win.
I am waiting for the flats with the gnarly cross winds where Fabian with his motor, Jens and Stuart will just gutter the entire peloton and split that thing apart into a million pieces. Happened last year with Astana and with no flat power I am sure they will not survive the pressure the Saxo guys will put down. Wait and see.
In any case, Contador you cheater….

Jan – I thought the same exact thing regarding Contador going down on Monday and then Schleck stopping to wait for him. The fact that Contador tried to claim he didn’t know what was going on is such BS.
Conversely, while I don’t like Contador, I also have to admit that in the world of rowing it is very rare (although not unheard of) to wait for a competitor that has has a mechanical issue. A few years back in Henley, Harvard was racing an English crew and Harvard had some sort of breakage in the middle of the race. The English crew was behind at the time of the breakage and was easily pulling through when Harvard had the issue. Instead of continuing to row through Harvard for the easy win the English crew stopped and requested a restart from the official. The request was granted, Harvard fixed its issue, and Harvard went onto win the race. Definitely an honorable approach on the English crew’s part.
Unfortunately I think this approach is too rare in sports these days and I have to admit I myself have been in two events with a breakage issue where I personally did not stop and took advantage of the situation (both times for a victory). I can argue that in both situations there were other crews racing who would not have stopped had I chosen to stop, but the reality is that I might have done the same thing even if it was a two boat race. Definitely not an easy thing to due to take the pressure off when you are hard wired to do everything in your power to go faster than your opponent… and even more telling when someone graciously does take the pressure off in the name of fair play.
Glad to hear we are in agreement. I read that the two “made up” which is less fun, but still looking to see Schleck take this one home.
-I was yelling at the screen when I watched Contador get off his saddle and hammer away once passing Schleck. I had the fantasy of instead of a crash, a spectator running out, grabbing his handlebars and steering him off a grade for a short tumble. That would have given me reason to cheer. …Then have Schleck wait.
AND dumbsh*t’s comment that 30 seconds wasn’t going to determine the winner of the Tour. Well then if that’s true, why attack?
well … Jens is all busted up now, so it’s on the rest of the team to drag Andy up to the base of the final climb on Thursday … should be “epic” (is that a banned word?)
