Barry Wolfe as an example

Posted on May 21, 2009

I would like to point out how CHEAP Barry Wolfe is.

If you can, please make sure to go out and support the race.

On the other hand, AND I HATE TO POINT FINGERS, but State TT for $35 and non NRC categories at manhattan Beach are a joke. State TT you get to race 1 hour, but I KNOW that Manhattan beach will be a cluster like it is EVERY year and ALL categories except the NRC events will be 30 minutes long if they get lucky.

Oh well…. I guess after all the bitching that people did after the first Ontario, they took the entry fee down a full $2!!!!!!!!!

I would stop bitching myself if I could see the books. That way ANY cost is justifiable, but then you run into the issue of running out of racers willing to put up with the prices. You think that sponsorship money running dry might be the cause?

Don’t forget to mention that Barry was THE MAN and is the reason we have so many races here today. SoCal cycling is what it is today largely due to Barry and the races and riders he developed. When Barry died, a great deal of California Cycling history died with him.

He treated all with respect and welcomed everyone to his rides. We would have no Simi ride if it weren’t for Barry. Barry started this ride close to 40 years ago. In additiona, the “Barry Ride,” frequented by Mercury in the 90s and other international pros, has been happening since the 80s. It’s one of the only rides where working class amateurs and pros ride as equals, thanks to Barry. Those that knew him loved him and still remember him while on the road.

In his late 50s and early 60s, Barry was still doing legit training rides with national level pro riders. Only a broken hip in a freak training accident slowed him down. Many riders still riding today owe their starts to Barry.

The Barry Wolfe GP is a great race to remember the man it honors. Sponsorship dollars or not, this is a great race to support due to the man it remembers.

well, that just gave me a whole new view on the race.

Never really heard of Barry as I am new to cycling. I only know of the Garret L. story.

I hope people show up and honor Barry.
